SJ23 Track & Field: Five Athletes Enter the History Books
The SJ23 Track and Field team faced challenging conditions at The John Cooper School in The Woodlands, TX, on Friday, April 4th, with consistent rain throughout the evening. Undeterred, five Lions rose to the occasion and etched their names into SJ23 history.
Friday's record-breaking performances began with the girls' 4x1 relay. Aaliyah Phillips-Robinson (Fr), Stephanie Rennie (So), Colette Maduagwu (Jr), and Bentley Johnson (So) conquered a time of 50.87 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 51.49 seconds set in 2023 by SJ23 alumni Briley Ward ('24), Annabelle Lanik ('24), Harper Huff ('24), and Eva Turner ('23). This formidable relay team enters the postseason ranked 3rd in the district and 6th in the TAPPS 6A Division.
Shortly after, sophomore Matthew Muraski claimed the 800m (0.5 mile) record with a time of 1:58.77. He edged out the previous mark of 1:58.80, held by alumnus Aaron Murray ('12). Muraski's time currently ranks him 1st in the district and 2nd in the TAPPS 6A Division.
The Lions delivered an outstanding performance, and SJ23 congratulates all athletes on their exceptional showing. The TAPPS District 4 meet will be held this week at St. Agnes on April 9th and 10th.
