St. John XXIII College Preparatory, located in Katy, Texas, was founded in 2004 and is a competitive, coeducational, college preparatory high school of 449 students from the areas of Katy, Sugar Land, Cypress, Spring, Richmond, Rosenberg, Memorial, Fulshear, and Spring Branch. 40 teaching faculty are employed, and 50% hold master’s degrees or above. The class of 2023 received more than $11 million in scholarships, accumulated more than 10,000 service hours, and had a 100% college acceptance rate.

The SJ23 Faculty offer a broad array of courses to meet the needs of SJ23 students.  Fifty percent of our faculty hold advanced degrees.

Student Honor Societies

SJ23 recognizes student excellence and achievement in multiple National Honor Societies.

  • National Honor Society

    National Honor Society, Lumen Christi Chapter at St. John XXIII College Preparatory
     
    • Juniors and Seniors who have attended SJ23 for at least one full school year and have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.8 will be invited to submit a completed application. Notice of eligibility will be emailed to those who meet the GPA requirement at the start of the school year.
    • Admission is not automatic. In addition to maintaining the minimum required GPA, applicants must demonstrate significant accomplishments in the domains indicated on the application form.
    • Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of four domains—Scholarship (based upon cumulative GPA), Leadership (based upon leadership roles within the school and community), Service (volunteering above and beyond school and club requirements), and Character (assessed by faculty)—the four pillars of National Honor Society.
    • After careful consideration by the NHS Faculty Council Selection Committee, top-ranking candidates will be awarded membership to National Honor Society.

  • National Science Honor Society Chapter

    The Science National Honor Society (SNHS) recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in science course. Throughout the year, students will meet at general meetings once a month during community time.  Members are also required to participate in outreach opportunities by obtaining a minimum of 10 service hours each year of membership.
    Requirements for membership:
    • 3.5 cumulative weighted GPA
    • 4.0 weighted GPA in science courses
    • Be a Senior or a Junior
    • Must have taken a previous AP or honors science course
    • Be currently in an AP or honors science course
    • Remain in honors or AP course during membership

  • Spanish National Honor Society

    St. John XXIII College Preparatory “Fray Luis de Leon” Chapter Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica 

    Purpose: 
    The purpose of this chapter shall be to recognize high achievement in Spanish studies by students of St. John XXIII College Preparatory and to promote continuity of interest in Hispanic studies. 
     
    Becoming a Member: 
    Applications for membership will open at the beginning of the 2nd semester, in January.  Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for membership: 

    • Class/Courses Requirement: 
      • Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be members of the sophomore, junior, or senior class. 
      • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a Spanish class in order to be eligible for selection to membership, or must have completed the highest level of Spanish offered at St. John XXIII. 
      • To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have completed three semesters of Spanish. 
    • Academic Requirement: 
      • Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on their semester transcript.  
      • Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter shall have a minimum cumulative Spanish grade point average of 3.5 on their semester transcript.  
    • Community Service Requirement:  Candidates must attend the Community Service Event provided by the society in the spring semester, or must complete four hours of community service as defined in Article VIII section 5 of this society’s bylaws. 
    • Induction Ceremony Requirement:  Candidates must attend the Induction Ceremony in the spring semester.

  • National Art Honor Society

    National Art Honor Society Chapter at St. John XXIII College Preparatory
     
    • Juniors and Seniors who have completed one full year of a Visual Art or Photography course with a final A average and demonstrated an outstanding ability and passion for the Visual Arts.  In addition, applicants must have completed one year as an active member of the SJ23 Art Club. 
    • Admission is not automatic. In addition to maintaining the minimum requirements, applicants must promote art, bringing it to the attention of the community through the chapter projects, events or individual pursuits. Candidates will be evaluated based on—Scholarship, Service, and Character—these are the national requirements outlined in the NAHS Handbook.
    • Students are accepted on a trial basis for the Fall Semester, and final selection is made in January when the school applies for renewal and registers members with the National organization.  Students are recognized at the Spring Art Show.
