SJ23 Soccer: Girls Advance, Boys End Memorable Run
SJ23 soccer's progress is evident, as both the boys' and girls' teams reached the playoffs for the first time in the same year. In last night's doubleheader, the girls won, and the boys ended their memorable playoff run.
Girls Soccer
In a tightly contested match, the girls' team secured an impressive victory against St. Dominic Savio in the first round of the 2025 TAPPS Playoffs. Their strong regular season record granted the Lions home-field advantage for the area matchup. St. Dominic Savio brought a tough defense, while the Lions are known for their high-scoring offense. In the clash, the Lions came out on top, with senior Ana Caldentey scoring the winning goal in the last two minutes. This marked Caldentey's 17th goal of the season and her third game-winning goal. A solid defensive performance kept the Eagles scoreless.
The Lions now head to Austin, TX, this Thursday for the regional playoff round against St. Michael's Catholic Prep. Let's Go Lions!
Boys Soccer The boys' soccer team concluded their 2025 TAPPS post-season last night, traveling to San Antonio for the area playoff game against Central Catholic High School. This was a historic moment, as it was the first time the program reached the playoffs in the 6A TAPPS classification. Though the Lions were defeated by Central Catholic, sophomore Santiago Rodon scored a goal, leaving the final score 6-1. The program features a predominantly young roster, promising future success. The Lions finished the season with five wins and nine goals within district play. SJ23 thanks the seniors for their leadership and sportsmanship during this season.
