SJ23 Track & Field: Two New School Records in Season Opener
The SJ23 Track and Field team kicked off their season with impressive performances at the St. John's Maverick Relay Meet last Friday and Saturday. The meet featured a diverse field of schools from various private school athletic associations. To score points at a track meet, athletes must place in the top eight of their respective events, and SJ23 saw numerous athletes achieve this feat. In addition to two new school records.
Friday night's 4x800m relays were a highlight of the meet, with both SJ23 squads determined to etch their names into school history. Both relays crossed the finish line in nail-biting finishes, achieving new school records.
The girls' team, comprised of Calleigh Richardson (12th), Maria Arriola-Alvarado (9th), Madilynn Barragan (12th), and Madigan Sero (9th), shattered the previous record by one second, finishing in an impressive 10:52.73.
Hot on their heels, the boys' team, consisting of Matthew Muraski (10th), David Spalding (9th), Luke Ottosen (11th), and Chris Pietrak (12th), followed suit, completing their relay in 8:37.12, just a hair faster than the previous record of 8:37.21.
Congratulations to both the girls' and boys' 4x800m relay teams for their historic achievements! We're incredibly proud of all our Lions who competed and look forward to cheering them on as they travel to Lutheran South Academy on Thursday, March 6th.
