After a much needed Christmas Break, the Lady Lions were back in action against Spring Frassati Lady Falcons. It did not take long to get the scoring started as Junior midfielder, Sabrina Hillyer, pierced the Lady Falcons defense on the dribble and found the back of the net comfortably. Scoring continued much as the Lady Lions maintained most of the possession within midfield and goals from Meghan Hollman (So.) Maya Nelson (So.) and Sabrina Hillyer brought the score to 4-0 by the end of the first half. At the start of second, the Lady Lions did not let up. More pressure and possession kept the ball on the Lady Falcons defensive half. Looks towards goal continued, but no goals came from each opportunity. Midway through the second half, Hillyer struck again. She creatively beat two defenders and found herself with enough space to crush the ball outside the 18 and high above the goalies reach. That made it 3 for Sabrina Hillyer. As minutes expired, Kathryn Juntti decided to join the scoring parade as she moved from number 3 position (fullback) to the number 11 (halfback). Juntti received the ball on the outside and took her space only to find the goalie who gave up the ball and off her line. Kathryn lifted it above her reach and bringing the score to 6-0. Coach Ramirez: "Minimal time practicing over Christmas Break and the girls did not skip a beat. I expected them to work hard as always, but to recount everything we talk about in regards to space and support is fantastic. What I thoroughly enjoyed the most was how comfortable the defense moved the ball around the back. Natalie, Kathryn, Sophia, Jenny... the trust is great and I love seeing that. Offensively, I know we can make noise. Utilizing the width is something we will continue to work on, but at this rate we should be there in no time. Now we are off to Laredo to see how we match against bigger schools. These girls will turn some heads, I can be confident with that."
