12 Lions Sign Letters of Intent for College Athletics

Twelve student-athletes from the Class of 2025 signed their Letters of Intent today, February 6, committing to play their respective sports at the collegiate level. These Lions join a distinguished legacy of student-athletes at SJ23. Congratulations on this remarkable achievement, and we wish you continued success in your collegiate careers! 
SJ23 Cheerleading
Samantha Monarch - University of Oregon
Samantha's dedication to SJ23 Cheerleading has been instrumental in the team's achievement of multiple TAPPS 6A titles. Her contributions have helped elevate the standard of SJ23 Cheer. She will continue her academic and athletic pursuits at the University of Oregon, where she will compete in Acrobatics and Tumbling. 

SJ23 Baseball
Giovanni Melendez - University of Dallas
Since transferring to SJ23 a few seasons ago, Melendez has demonstrated grit and determination on the baseball field. He will continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Dallas, where he will play for the Crusaders. Melendez will be remembered as a teammate who inspired others to excel. 

Hudson Waits - Ouachita Baptist University
Waits has been a model of hard work and dedication during his time at SJ23, showing what consistent practice can achieve. He will continue his baseball career at Ouachita Baptist University (OBU), where he will compete in the Great American Conference and aim to help the Tigers reach future playoffs.

Nathan Purvis - College of St. Scholastica
Purvis leaves a lasting mark on SJ23 Baseball. His commitment is evident in his hard work and contributions to the program's growth and success, most recently in their deep playoff run in 2024. He will continue his baseball career at the College of St. Scholastica. 

SJ23 Football 
Sammy Khoury - Southwestern University
Khoury's dedication to the gridiron has been instrumental in building a strong football culture at SJ23. Playing various offensive and defensive positions, he has shown how far a strong heart can take an athlete. He will continue his football career at Southwestern University, joining the Pirates this August. 

Sam Lahr - Ave Maria University
Lahr's passion for SJ23 Football has been evident in his tireless efforts on the field. A varsity-level player, he has consistently given his all, playing both offense and defense and setting a high standard for those on the line of scrimmage. He will continue his football career at Ave Maria University. 

Josh Pfeifer - Saint Anselm College
As the Lions' starting quarterback this past fall, Pfeifer earned the trust of his teammates and helped lead the team to a successful season after a rebuilding period. He will continue his football career at Saint Anselm College in the Northeast-10 Conference in New Hampshire. 

SJ23 Cross Country/Track and Field 
Christopher Pietrak - Colorado School of Mines
Pietrak leaves SJ23, holding multiple school records in track and cross country. He will continue his athletic career at the Colorado School of Mines, joining the defending Division II National Champion cross-country team this August. His hard work and dedication will leave a lasting legacy with the SJ23 cross-country and track programs. 

SJ23 Volleyball
Anna Clement - University of Dallas
Clement joins the Crusaders after a distinguished career at SJ23. As a multi-year varsity member, she demonstrated her commitment to the Lions' growth and success, contributing to multiple team championships. She is eager to begin a new chapter with the Crusaders. 

Jenna McGuire - East Texas Baptist University
SJ23 varsity standout McGuire will continue her athletic career at East Texas Baptist University (ETBU). Her contributions were instrumental in the program's recent TAPPS 5A championships, and her leadership has been vital in the team's transition to TAPPS 6A. 

Megan Morello - University of Texas at Dallas
When discussing standards and goals at SJ23, Morello's name is synonymous with excellence in volleyball. By her junior year, she had achieved the remarkable milestone of 1,000 digs in just three seasons. Morello capped off her senior year with another strong performance for the Lions and will now join the UTD Volleyball program. 

Nairod Fonseca - Graceland University
Nairod's athletic leadership has left a significant mark on St. John XXIII. In addition to his record-setting performances in Track and Field, he has been a driving force in the growth of the Men's Volleyball program. He now looks forward to continuing his athletic career at Graceland University, where he will join the Men's Volleyball team.
