SJ23 Cross Country Dominates Second Annual XC Classic Meet
Katy, TX – On Saturday, August 24th, the SJ23 Cross Country programs hosted their second annual XC Classic Meet, welcoming 47 private schools from the Houston area. 854 runners toed the line, hoping for a personal best finish.
Boys Varsity
Despite stiff competition with over 100 runners in each divisional race, the SJ23 Varsity Boys finished a solid second out of 14 teams. Sophomore Matthew Muraski led the charge with a 7th-place finish, followed closely by Junior Luke Ottosen (12th), Junior Colton Biehunko (15th), Sophomore Paul Cosgray (18th), and Freshman David Spalding (39th).
Girls Varsity
The Varsity Girls also performed admirably, placing 3rd out of 11 teams. Averi Garrity was the top finisher for the girls, securing 5th place overall. Freshmen Amelie Moloney, Kristen McCain, and Madi Sero rounded out the top performers with 8th, 13th, and 16th-place finishes, respectively. Senior Elise Rodgers also contributed to the team's success with a 25th-place finish.
JV Divisions
The JV Girls finished 3rd out of 10 teams, led by Freshman Maria Alvarado, Sophomore Samantha Court, and Juniors Fabiana Montilva Casa and Natalia DeLosReyes. For the JV Boys, Taylor Adams, Alex Lawton, and Nicholas Opperman set personal bests.

Next Up: The varsity teams will compete in the SA FEAST XC Meet, a prestigious event featuring private and public schools. The JV teams will travel to Bellville on Saturday for the annual Bellville Boosters XC Invitational. Good luck, lions!
